About the event

Sakanaga will be hosting our first 5K race event on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. This will be a combination road and trail run held at Sakanaga, an event and retreat center in Marietta, SC. Sakanaga is a nonprofit business run by entrepreneurial students in an 8-month program called OneLifeX. OneLifeX is designed to teach a small group of inspiring young leaders how to start and run a business.

Leading up to the event, participants are encouraged to raise money for the renovation of the Activities Building at Sakanaga as we plan to convert it into an outdoor pavilion and venue space. Each competitor will receive a t-shirt and have the opportunity to compete for first, second, and third place prizes. There will also be fundraising prizes at various levels and prizes for the top fundraisers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the day of the race, we ask that all racers and observers ARRIVE BEFORE 8:50 AM. The road to the camp, Sakanaga Trace, is a part of the 5K route and will be blocked off and closed at the aforementioned time for the safety of all participants.

Please follow the directions of our parking team so we can be sure no cars block any portion of the route. You will then be directed to the current Activities Building where you may check in, receive your t-shirt, and warm up before the race.

After the race, food and refreshments will be provided in the Activities Building as well as tables where you can purchase merchandise and learn more about Sakanaga!

If you have committed to trying to raise $500 in sponsorships, the following information is for you!

Start by coming up with a list of family and friends you know who you could call and ask to support you as you raise funds for the 5K. These could be aunts, uncles, grandparents, old classmates, etc. You can record this information on the provided sponsorship sheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eB7jYq_iEiFMdpLeZ6M0h-tcx3zh0hU9vNYIGUh93cg/edit

Open the spreadsheet and either print a copy to keep track of the information on paper or create a copy of the spreadsheet that you can edit in Google Sheets.

Keep the call and ask short. Simply inform them you are participating in the Sakanaga 5K and briefly describe what the funds are going to (renovation of Sakanaga’s Activities Building), and ask if they will sponsor you at $25, $50, $100, etc. It is worth noting that Sakanaga is a nonprofit.

After you’ve reached out to a potential sponsor, text or email them the below information on how and where to send their sponsorship:

For your convenience, you can make out your sponsorship online at https://donorbox.org/donate-to-onelife

Simply select One-Time, insert your desired sponsored amount, select Sakanaga 5K Donation under the Designation drop-down, check “Write us a comment” and write “Sponsorship on behalf of *insert racer name*”
